I upgraded the design of this site to a modified version of the Wordpress theme unsleepable. It was odd adapting a Wordpress theme for a non-wordpress, but overall it was easier than trying to design something from scratch. Also there are plenty of great themes to choose from.
The new site has a couple new ‘features’ - each post has tags, and I got rid of the Friendfeed widget. It’s also running on the bleeding-edge pylons and couchdb.
If you’re considering using a Wordpress theme for a non-WP site, a quick word of advice: don’t bother using the theme source (the php files) as a starting point. Usually themes are spread out over multiple files. It’s much easier just view the source of the page and start from there.
